Word Startup Switches

Note: MS Word can be started in an other-than-usual way by editing the command which is activated by the Word shortcut on the Programs Menu. Here's how:

1. Right-click on the desktop and select: New Shortcut

2. The Create New Shortcut Wizard will ask you for a command line, type c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe /switch {where /switch stands in for the switches listed below.}

3. Common Word switches:     /a                 Stops Word from running automatic macros
                                               /n                 Words starts normally but doesn't load the usual "Document1"
                                               /mFile1        Word starts and loads the last document opened

Example:  c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe /mFile1

4. If you'd like Word to start a specific document each time Word starts, create a New Shortcut and add this after a space to the command line:                     c:\My Documents\documentname.doc

Example:
c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\winword.exe c:\documentname.doc

Note: Always remember to add a <space> between
the command line and the switch!
